On April 21, the XIV International Academic Online Talks “Philology, Intercultural Communication and Translation in the XXI Century” were held at the sites of the International Institute of Interdisciplinary Education and Ibero-American Studies of SFedU.
One of the invited lecturers was Candidate of Geographical Sciences, President of the Russian Friendship Society with Cuba, Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation - Alexey Mikhailovich Lavrov, who delivered a lecture on “Public organizations in the paradigm of international cooperation: the experience of the Russian Friendship Society with Cuba”.
His report was devoted to the history of the creation, goals and main activities of the Russian Friendship Society with Cuba, as well as to the history of relations between Russia and Cuba, Cuban revolutionary leaders and the Caribbean crisis. A. M. Lavrov paid special attention to the outstanding personalities of the Russian Friendship Society with Cuba, who not only influenced his development, but also served as president of the Russian Friendship Society with Cuba in different years.
The Russian Friendship Society with Cuba consists of 43 regional branches, more than 400 active members of the Society, who carry out active activities aimed at preserving the historical heritage and developing trusting relations between Russia and Cuba, in cooperation with the Russian Foreign Ministry, Rossotrudnichestvo, and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Cuba. The Russian Friendship Society with Cuba participates in the international video channel “EUROPA POR CUBA”, as well as in various international and all-Russian events and projects. In 2022, the Russian Society for Friendship with Cuba continued its participation in solidarity actions with Cuba and helped raise funds for the creation and installation of a monument to Fidel Castro in Moscow.
In the conclusion, Alexey Mikhailovich noted the important role of the Regional Branches of the Russian Society for Friendship with Cuba, including the Regional Branch of Rostov Region, operating on the basis of our University. He also invited employees and students of SFedU and other universities to take part in events dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the birth of Ernesto Che Guevara.
The lecture of President of the Russian Society for Friendship with Cuba did not leave anyone indifferent, because thanks to this lecture the participants of the Internet Talks felt what the words “Cuba is far away, Cuba is near” mean. The fact that Southern Federal University prepares for the opening of university branch in Cuba gave a special urgency to the lecture, contributing to the familiarization with the history of their native country and relations between Russia and Cuba.
